Water is considered to be poisonous when overconsumed. 

The condition that results is called hyponatremia, in which excess water flushes too much sodium out of the body. Sodium is one of the human body’s most important electrolytes and is necessary for proper muscle and nerve function. Severe symptoms of this condition include seizures, coma, and death. 

When exercising, it is important to remember to replenish your electrolytes in addition to the fluids you consume. As you can see, water alone does not make the whole system work, so go for that sports drink when performing strenuous activity for a long period of time. 

As for water overconsumption, don’t worry too much about drinking excessive water – your body usually knows what’s best for it, so trust your thirst!
